Hilda, I hope you don't mind, but you wrote such a nice letter to EJ that I just copied and pasted it here.
Hi EJ,
Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. Last week was a busy week for me and then my grandson came over to spend the weekend with me. He is so busy between school, work, and his girlfriend (not necessarily in that order) that he hardly ever has a chance to come >stay with me. I really enjoy it when he comes. His girlfriend was in Atlanta for a dance competition and he didn't have to work Saturday so said it was a good time for him. Margaret told me about Guy, but did something happen to Renee'? I hesitate to ask about anyone in particular because I'm not sure what their status is. I was sorry to hear about Guy, I had seen him & Gail when Lionell and I went over for his class reunion a few years >ago. Jackie was there so they stopped by and I got to talk with Guy for a few minutes. I was glad to hear from Jeff and Richert, sounds as though they are both doing good. Dave used to keep me posted when he got news from over there, he was better at keeping in contact with his classmates. How about filling me in on any that you know of.Thanks for your phone numbers, I will certainly give you a call the next time I am over there. Maybe we can get together and really get caught up. My daughter and I might be coming over just for a weekend sometime in March. She wants to go see "Pap", my dad, before his alzheimer's progresses to the point that he doesn't know her. I have quite a bit to do today so best get busy. And yes, I definitely want us to keep in touch. Hope to hear more from Margaret and also plan to email Bettye and hopefully get caught up with her.Take care. Hilda
Hi EJ (is it ok if I address you as that?),To answer your question, yes, I graduated in May and Lionell and I got married the following December. If you remember, my family moved to Oregon at the end of our junior year so I went my senior year out there....bummer! Just kidding, it wasn't that bad, I just missed all my friends from Kentwood. And KHS will always be my school. Lionell's family and my family had known each other and been friends since I was about two years old. Our dads used to work together and the families visited often, were just good friends. They moved to Oregon the year before we did. His family lived in the Portland area and we lived about 250 miles south of there, but they remained friends and continued to visit each other. After I graduated, Lionell's oldest brother and his wife invited me to come up for a visit and I ended up staying up there. He & I began dating after I decided to stay and as they say, the rest is history. He went into the service in Sept of '62 and when he came home on leave at Christmas we got married. He was stationed in El Paso Texas but I didn't get to go down with him until March. Then, in February 1964 we were blessed with our first child, Mike. Kim was born in '68 while were living in Portland. We stayed in Oregon until December of '79 when we made the decision to come back down south. I have had a few different jobs but the majority of my working years was in banking. Then I went to work in the Department of Revenue for the State of Florida. I enjoyed all of the jobs I had because I love being around people. At the time I am not working but after my trip to Oregon I might get something part time, because I do enjoy people so much. Right now I am just enjoying my grandchildren and doing some travelling. Hope this brings you up to date and answers your questions. Probably more than you wanted to know, but even though there have been some rough times the last couple of years, life has been and continues to be good. I'm glad to hear that you, Margaret, Bettye, and Charlene have kept in touch. Would love to be updated on them also.
Love, Hilda
