I recall very well me trying to teach Renee to drive. Yes, Margaret, you guessed it!....in the cemetery. It was late one afternoon and Mama was expecting us home soon. Renee was driving
Mama's car going west on the south side of the cemetery, the sun was going down, I am yelling for her to turn the wheel and before we knew it she hit the ditch. We both knew we much get out of the ditch and soon. It was getting dark. We did not want to be in a grave yard at night. We climbed over a fence and went to find Don Prine....Renee, help me here. Don was not at home. I was getting really worried. I think Gerald McCallester(sp) came to our rescue or was it Don? We did get out and when I got home...much later than I expected. Mama wanted to know where I had been. I told her the story. Her reply was "I'm damn glad you didn't come get me." Everytime I think of Mama's reaction I have to laugh...she was so cool. She never said anything else. I'm sure most of you remember her. Mama loved our teenage years. There was always a house full of kids. "Roll" always had a few boys spending the night and every weekend someone was spending the night with me. After high school, it even got worse. One night
I remember there were 16 at the house getting dressed to go out on a Sat. night.
Oh, by the way, that's not the only time I've had a mishap in the cemetery. Another story
for another day.

It was Gerald that pulled us out of the ditch with his tractor. Thank you for trying to teach me to drive. I turned to you after I nearly ran into my house and scared my mother to death. I didn't learn to drive until after Perry was born .
Yes, your mother was great. I remember her taking us everywhere. She was so much fun.
We went to your aunt's in Baton Rouge a lot. I especially remember when she took us to Mardi Gras and how shocked we were to see a couple of men walking in the French Quarter wearing only fish nets!!
Can't wait to hear about you other mishap in the cemetery.
Renee,
That trip to B.R. was for was one that Jeff remembers too. It was you, Lynn, Guy, and Jeff. I had such a crush on Jeff...
we all did. I had some great pictures from that time. Lost them
in Katrina. Do you have any pictures of us? I had some adorable ones.
Us at Christmas time, us standing on our heads and many more. If you
have any I would love to see them.
Your Mom could have some somewhere.
How is she?
I don't think I have any pictures of us , but I will look. Most of what I were lost after Billy and I separated and our house burned down.
My mother is not doing well at all. I don't believe she has any either, because after the house burned I went through all of hers to get pictures of my kids and I'm sure I would have taken any of us.
I do know she has the yearbooks. Do you still have yours? If not I can scan in some pictures from them.
Was it Baton Rouge or Mardi Gras that Jeff remembers? You are right. We all had a mad crush on Jeff. I wonder if he realized how popular he was?
Love, Renee
I'm still trying to find some old photos... and no I really didn't know I was that popular. Its funny when I see remember some of my childhood photos that look like someone only a mother could love. I know I have some of the toothless photo's that Bonnie mentioned earlier.
