Coach Felder

Okay, here's a test of your memory. We were in high school and they were having some kind of contest and very few entered it. I had a history class with Coach Felder and he told me if I didn't enter that contest I might not pass his course. The contest just so happened to include a talent portion and I told him I didn't sing or play an instrument so therefore I couldn't be in contest. Richert, I'm not sure how you got involved in this, but you convinced me I could do a pantomime to a song from South Pacific, a musical that made it's debut in 1958. Four of us ended up in the contest.......I think Rosemary who twirled, Sandra who sang a song and also Bonnie who sang and one of the songs was "Tea for Two". My pantomime was to "A Wonderful Guy" and the words went something like this....................

"I'm as corny as Kansas in August, I'm as normal as blueberry pie. No more a smart little girl with no heart, I have found me a wonderful guy! I am in a conventional dither, With a conventional star in my eye. And you will note there's a lump in my throat When I speak of that wonderful guy! I'm as trite and as gay as a daisy in May, A cliche coming true! I'm bromidic and bright as a moon happy night Pouring light on the dew!

I'm as corny as Kansas in August, High as a flag on the Fourth of July! If you'll excuse an expression I use, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with a wonderful guy! ...........I remember being dressed as a tennis player (explain that one) and even had a tennis racket in my hand.

Well, they presented 1st, 2nd and 3rd place to the other three girls and guess who came in 4th!! I remember Mother and Daddy (who never saw the movie) trying to console me and said I might have won if the record had not gotten stuck at the end and kept saying "I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love........"

Coach Felder gave me an A in the history class!!

What contest was that? Anyone remember? If you don't, maybe that's a good thing.............I'm trying to forget it ever took place (ha).
