Gustav

Hello! It is the 3rd anniverary of Katrina and we now have a storm that is going to make landfall
somewhere probably on the Louisiana coast. It's hard to believe that 3 years ago Katrina hit on
Labor Day and Gustav will probably do the same. We plan to stay in Hammond. I'm so grateful
that we are not living in New Orleans. There are still over 5,000 Fema trailers and the levees on the Westbank can only withstand a 1 or 2 category hurricane. Some levees are still under construction.

Am watching the news now and this storm may come in as a Category 3. When Katrina made landfall in New Orleans it was only a 2. I know that's hard to believe but the flooding in New Orleans was caused by the incompetence of the Corp of Engineers. What a mess.

We had a generator installed about 6 months after we moved. It will operate the whole house in
case we lose power. So I feel okay about staying.

Between the hurricane and the Democratic Convention.....not sure which is worse.

EJ, I'm still chuckling over your last sentence!

Question....How do we correct the time on the post?

EJ, I don't know how to change the time. I've learned it's irrelavant!

We are preparing for the storm also.
We do what we can and then pray it will not come. E.J. I'm glad you're not in N.o. either. And I agree with the last sentence. Be safe.

E.J., I loved your last sentence too... This afternoon we rode by interstate to Mike's in Amite and the northbound lane was bumper to bumper then... I can only imagine how it will tomorrow when they open the Contra-flow... Hope everybody stays safe...

The time is all off on our chat page, but I sure do not know how to change it either...

How bout them tigers !! Go, LSU Tigers !!!

Well, this is a scary, scary storm.
During Katrina when all the trees started falling around us...I don't remember being afraid. Of course, I did not know, at that time, the extent of the damage in N.O.
Gustav is now 36 hrs. away and it's a huge storm...
Large power outages...I'm so glad we have a generator. It is connected to the house and will run everything.
Janice, B.R., I fear, is going to get pounded and we will too. Let's
pray that we all stay safe.

I was never afraid when Katrina hit. It was so hot and inconvenient after the storm. For some reason, I am really nervous about this one. I just keep praying that it will move just a little more west. The quadrant that we will be in is real scarey to me. I'm just one of these that does what you have to do when the time comes. We are as prepared as we can be. Godspeed to alll of you in harm's way. Did you not think that the DC seemed like the second coming of Christ. I don't know what is going to be worse. This right now or that!!! LOL

Hi Everybody,

I just got back from Louisiana. I tried to get my family to come up here, but no one wanted to leave. I had rather be there myself than be here worrying and unable to get in touch with anyone. All we can do is pray and hope for the best.

Love,

Renee

Hey there I'm so glad that none of you are in NO right now, although as I write this it looks like it may by pass the city. I came on the blog to see how you all were doing. We only have one area of difference.....Guess who was thrilled with the DC and who thinks Obama may be the cure for what ails the country that has lost it's way and has been under the most destructive US president in history. I'm praying for change in Nov. Hope we can still be friends. lol

Richert, I appreciate your input and to each his own opinion. I'm watching the storm, too. I'm worried about Charleen in Alexandria now. And Jeff, isn't Hannah suppose to visit NC after Gustav? I'm ready for all of this to be over.
