Thank you everybody for the birthday wishes. I had a nice quiet birthday. Ron grilled some steaks and we just relaxed at home. After watching the news this week, I went around all day humming, "Another day older and deeper in debt." Hard to believe we are now "senior citizens"!
EJ, I think I was born around 4 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Do you know what time you were born?
Margaret, I'm sure we celebrated many birthdays together, although I don't specifically remember any parties. EJ's mom was so great about taking us on trips. . I remember one time she took us to Mardi Gras which was usually close to our birthday and it seems like we had several slumber parties.
Renee, You have jogged my memory...Mother did take us to B.R. one year... you, Lynn, Jeff, and Guy. We spent the night at my aunt's house, toured the State Capitol, and I believe we went to a Rodeo. It was probably for our 11th or 12th b/d. I remember something about Guy & Jeff tying balloons on their toes. Do you remember any of this?
I do remember that trip, although I don't remember Jeff and Guy tying balloon to their toes. Don't know how I could have forgotten that!
I went with you several times to Aunt Cristina's and we played hearts with Brother and Delores. Do you ever hear from them?
Do you remember the trip to Mardi Gras? Your mother was a saint to put up with all of us. She was working full time and didn't have much money, but she always made it a point to see that we were entertained. And she was so much fun.
Renee, do you remember who else went with us and if we spent the night? Mama was always lots of fun. I do not know how in the world she did all she did when we were teenagers... Gosh, she worked full time, had an infant/toddler (Ronald), sewed, cooked, and a million other things..
One of the things I remember about going to N.O. was driving down old Hwy 51, hitting all those bumps going through Manchau, and singing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall". She didn't drive slow...I bet she would sometime hit 80.
I have a ton of stories that I could tell about Mama. Sometime when I meet people and they find out Bernice was my Mom...they will say "oh, I remember her" and tell me a funny story or tell me about some advise she had given them or something she did for them.
No I don't remember who was with us. I kept thinking Jeff was with us, but I'm not sure. Does anyone else remember going to Mardi Gras. I do remember singing 99 bottles of beer and the bumpy road. I don't think we spent the night. I remember walking down bourbon street and being shocked at some of the costumes. I'm thing we were probably 13 or 14.
