Renee, thanks for asking. Luckily, we had no water in our house though this is the worst flooding I've seen in our area in a long, long, time. Jack and I awoke about 3 am to torrential rains which continued for another 4 hours. We had approximately 7 inches of rain fall in that period of time. There were literally white caps in our front yard from the flow of the flood waters toward the bayou. We have a gully on the side of our house that is always dry. This time, it flowed over its banks and our yard looked like a lake. I could not even leave for work until 8:15 am (yes, some people insisted on having their elective surgery done on this day) and I was suppose to be there at 7 am. Some of the houses in our neighborhood had about 5 feet of water in them. Buffalo Bayou flows through our area. We feel blessed to have gotten off so lightly.

Margaret, I'm so thankful you didn't get water in your house. Our's flooded several years ago and it was a nightmare.
Based on the photos on TV I can't imagine you having to drive to work!
You deserve a gold star.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Love,
Renee
Marg, thank goodness you didn't get any water in the house. Big question, do you have flood insurance?
Renee, what caused the flood that you had? And, did you have flood insurance.
I did not have flood insurance on the rental double that I owned in N.O. Fortunately it did not get but a few inches of water and I was able to sell it quickly. So many people that owned rental property did not have flood insurance. That is one of the reasons so much of the property in N.O. has not been renovated.
Renee, so glad you are going to be with us for the reunion.
Yes, we have flood insurance. Remember, our old house flooded 3 times from heavy rains. We've lived here 36 years but so far, we've been high and dry!
EJ, I just wrote a long post about the flood, but I hit something and the post disappeared. Not sure what is going on. Haven't had that happen before.
No we didn't have flood insurance. It wouldn't cover the type of flooding we have. Our first floor is a walk out basement, three walls are underground. When we got a heavy rain the water flowed down the hill and produces groundwater that came into the house. The house is an older house and the coating to prevent the water from coming in eventually wore off.
The first floor had to be gutted down to the concrete. Even the studs had to be replaced.
We had a drainage system and a sump pump in, and so far it has been a Godsend. When that pump kicks in, and it has many time, I count my blessings.
Renee,
I know how you feel about losing a long post. I wrote one about Mama
taking us to N.O. Have no idea what happened to it.
Thanks for the sweet words about her. She died(4-30-02)seven years ago today. She was so good about taking us places. I miss her.
