Okay, guys, get those brains working. Do any of you remember a movie theater other than the Elroy that was on Main Street? Mother took me to see the Wizard of Oz and we saw it in a theater that I remember being across the street from the Elroy. I remember this movie so well because when the monkeys started flying around, I got scared, started crying, and we had to leave.
I can always ask Jimmy Schwartz...he sometimes comes to my water aerobics class. He knows everything there is to know about Main Street. But I'll wait to see what y'all remember.

I believe that the movie theatre across from the Elroy was called the Ott...or at least it was owned my the Ott family. I remember the theatre well because I too saw Wizard of Oz there and had to be taken screaming from the theatre the minute the witch appeared. The location was the same as what became Mosely's jewlers because I can remember going into the jewelry store and going in the back and seeing the old screen still up. Have no idea how long ago that was. I think Wizard of Oz is the only movie I ever saw there but in my memory the first movie I ever saw was the Disney film So Dear To My Heart...at least I think it was Disney and it might have been at that theatre also.
Richert,
Thank you, thank you!Your memory serves you well!
I think the Wizard of Oz was filmed in 1939...
We had to have been three-plus to have remembered going to the movie and being scared.
One of my favorite films was "The Greatest Show on Earth"...do you remember that movie?
I sent an email to Gary Gaut and he
remembers the theater. It was called the "Weems". Seems it was owned by a family from Osyka and was
in operation only a couple of years.
Richert, the Otts were from Osyka...
but I do not remember a Weems family.
Georgia Ott was our age and was a cousin of Peggy Sanders. Do you think there might have been a connection between the Weems & Otts?
You both have a better memory than I do. When I talk to my mother I'll ask about it. I love this blog because there are so many things I'm sure I would never have remembered! It is great to have these slices of life refreshed.
