Most of you may know and some may not, but Ms. Kathryn Sanders, aka as, "Mama Kat" to the entire town of Kentwood, passed away, Tuesday morning at the age of 93 years young...... I attended her "Celebration of Life" yesterday, which was absolutely heart warming...... She was an inspiration to all who knew her and I will miss her so much, just like everyone else.........
MAMA KAT INSPIRATION FOR STEEPLE
Two days before her death, she was in Church helping with Sunday School records, greeting people, checking on sick folks, and taking her usual place in worship.... On that day, she would take the fall that would lead to her hastened death.....
Mama Kat inspired with her life.... Now she continues to inspire even in her going home to be with the Lord. She is the inspiration behind the steeple that will soon adorn the sanctuary of First Baptist Church... A couple of months ago, she began to ask the question for which no one seemed to have the answer---"Why doesn't our Church have a steeple?" Sanctuary buildings in the past history of FBC had steeples, but not the present one.... She inspired Pastor, Deacons, and leaders... A fund was started in her honor....... The Kathryn Sanders Steeple Fund....
She fell last Sunday by the elevator.... Church members rushed to her side... In pain, she lay waiting for an ambulance to come.. To help her pass time, Raymond Cutrer reached in his pockest, pulled out his phone and showed her a picutre of the rendering done by Tom Tolar of what the steeple will look like on FBC...... She grabbed the phone, studied the picture and in her pain said, " Is that really going to happen?" Raymond assured her, "yes, it's really going to happen.."
Thanks to "Mama Kat," the steeple will soon be more than a rendering----it will be a reality...... What a Lady !! There is no more to be said !!

This is nice, Bettye. Thank you so much for posting.
Bettye, What a wonderful thing for her to get started on, and what a blessing it was that they were able to let her know that it all was about to happen.
I remember her well, and she was at Alice Marys for Busters reunion.
Not sure if I like the new format of this blog. What do all of you think...
Happy Birthday tomorrow EJ...Hope you have a wonderful day...
